The Yellow Truck

A walk down the road produced this find. Covered with lichen, I am left wondering about the story behind this truck. Especially so close to Halloween.

The old yellow truck
It would appear this old truck was abandoned long ago, yet it seems to have been recently moved. The corner window is too clean and there is air in the tires.
If the colors in this photo appear to be over saturated, you are correct. I used a circular polarizing filter that enhances colors to become more vivid. I wanted this truck to appear somewhat operational as it were going to make a left hand turn at any moment.

Haunting abandonment.

(HDR)

I under saturated the colors for this image slightly below what was seen in real time. I was hoping for a more haunting image of an abandoned truck. Strange though if you notice the driver's side headlight and trim ring appear brand new as compared to the passenger's side headlight. Is this truck rejuvenating like the Stephen King book? Remember his book, "Christine"?

Dutch Oven Pot Roast

JB at the office thought it was time for some food photos. I concur.
Saturday afternoon we prepared the dutch oven to cook a pot roast over the firepit.
The recipe I used was Byron's "Dutch Oven Pot Roast; http://papadutch.home.comcast.net/~papadutch/dutch-oven-recipe-potroast.htm

Most recipes direct cooking the dutch over with charcoal. But we have plenty of wood on hand for the main heat below the fire grate. I only used charcoal on top of the oven. The trouble was a south wind at 20 MPH. More wood was needed to maintain a constant temperature, as was shifting the wood coals around to keep from over heating the oven. All in all, it was over a 3 hour cook.

The end result was delicious! And thanks to Mark's Black Pot for the great tips and information cooking with dutch ovens. http://marksblackpot.blogspot.com/

Orangerie - A Study in Abstract Leaves

No, this is not the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris. A museum which I will suggest as a must see when visiting Paris. Many fine works of art are inside plus Claude Monet's Les Nympheas, (see link below).
Mrs. DL and I were on our typical weekend walk to the 'Bou for our morning coffee. Of all places, these photos were taken on the paved trail behind Super Target. We used the macro feature to get up close and tight to the subject with her Canon A710 IS point and shoot camera.
I enjoyed these orange color tones that caught my eye, reminding me of the museum we enjoyed showcasing impressionistic that we visited while in Paris last April. Again, these images can not compare with the real works of art in the museum. For some reason Orangerie popped into my head.

Lately, with all the mud slinging adds of outward lies and misconceptions spewed by both the Dems and Repubs, I've felt like shooting the TV. And not with my camera, it's ruining the baseball playoffs.
I sure wish I could take more than a year off from work like the windbags have done to tout their propaganda. I'm just not going to drink their Jonestown Kool Aid. Scotch on the rocks for me; make it a triple.
.
Next time around, let's keep the nonsense, er, campaign to four weeks maximum.

Duluth Lift Bridge

Going up! No, not for this little speedboat. There was a large sailboat beyond approaching the bridge. Someday, I hope to capture images of those giant freighter and ore boats coming and going under this bridge. To learn more about the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge, please see this site;

Crash

PC Crash
Have no fear Geek Squad is here. I'm sensing double trouble in this new development. When was the last time anyone has seen 2 Geek Squad vehicles at a residence? Worse yet, the big vans were required. Usually the eye catching Geek Squad olkswagon Beetles are sent out on demand.

Cart Crash
A lone Cub Foods shopping cart far from the store. I feel for the kid that must corral this cart back to the store. Come to think of it, what fun it would be to spend your time outside on a beautiful summer evening searching for wayward carts. Do the kids a favor, corral you carts at the designated place. Most of us are tired of wayward carts banging into our vehicles.

Mississippi Coloringbook

Can you spot the Heron in the Mississippi River?
(Hint, think red)
A rivers edge view of downtown Minneapolis and the Stone Arch Bridge.
Last Saturday evening, I met up with felow Twin cities photographers, Werner (from http://photoblog.twincityphotos.com/ ), Jonathan, Matt, Jessica, and Leng. A few beers at Pracna and a bit of confusion, we were off on our city walkabout photoshoot. A lot of fun bouncing ideas with each other and sharing tips and general photography information. I called it quits at 11:30 PM and headed for the 20 minute drive home.

Exposure: 13 sec - Aperture: f/11 - Focal Length: 38 mm - ISO Speed: 400 - Exposure Bias: 0/3 EV

Here the Heron stands in the red light.

Werner spotted this Heron in the red light. Thanks, Werner, this shot is for you. This photo was difficult to shoot as it was dark, thus the long exposure. And auto focus does not work in the dark. I had to manually focus this shot. I should add, the red light is from the neon GOLD MEDAL FLOUR sign. The sign blinks on and off. Timing for focusing and snapping this photo was difficult at best.

Resonant Strings

The inner beauty of the Piano.
KPB's beautiful piano. Our close friends were gracious enough to allow me to photograph their piano in a different light. We mainly see a piano from the outside with it's high gloss black finish. Rarely do we get the chance to see it's inner beauty. Until now.

I hope everyone had a fun and safe 4th of July weekend. We just returned home, Monday night, from a 5 day weekend at the lake. There are way too many photos to go through and post, maybe some fish pic portraits Mrs. Dusty Lens took.
