Doree is back!

Bathing Beauty

Doree has returned to our backyard. At least we like to believe this is our Doree. This dove is not shy of us. All the other doves that visit our yard fly off whe we are in view. Here we see Doree preparing to bathe. Yes, I was outside with her and quickly took this photo before hurrying back inside to accomodate her bathing privacy.

7/18/07 - Empty Nest Syndrome

Today, our Twins spread their wings and took their first practice flight a full 3 feet to our deck chair. They did a great job in their solo flights. Now, if anyone wants to come visit us for refreshments on our deck, you can rest assured that our chairs are the most comfortable. mourning Dove approved for comfort. We hate to see them go. Bon voyage!

July 13th

Sorry, for more dove shots. It was a long day at the salt office. I get such a kick out of watching Doree raise her young. I was really hoping for a pair of Baltimore Orioles at our feeder station. But they are much too camera shy.

July 11nth

Update on Doree. The following morning, we found Doree on her nest tending to the Twins. We are now involved in keeping our deck free from hawks. Thanks for your concerns and the great info on helping the potential orphaned chiks. This is the best shot I could get. Doree has been tramatized enough to suffer some silly biped with camera demanding her to say "cheese" for umpteen pictures.

July 9

Doree had twin doves! Unfortunately, 2 hours after this photo was taken, a red tailed hawk was seen on our deck within feet of this nest. Mrs. mtnets chased the hawk away. Doree has not returned in 4 hours. We're worried now.

Doree hunkered down

Here we find Doree hunkered down behind the flowers to find shaded relief from the blistering sun. Heat wave proves too much for her as we see her often cooling and soaking in the birdbath. She eyes our sliding patio door, and is envious when we open it to walk out on the deck and the waft of comforting cool air whisps by her. She lifts standing erectly catching all of the remaining cool air as the door is closed. Poor gal outdoors in the insufferable heat working hard to incubate the twins. They should be hatching soon, then the fun of raising the twins will begin.

Its Twins!

Doree has twins!

our feathered friend, Doree, enjoys long hours sitting on her eggs and watching us watch her. We'll join her on the deck with pina colada or margarhita refreshments and listen to the Twins games on the radio.

Planter Family

We retrned from a long weekend to find a new family take residence in our deck flower pot. A family of Mourning Doves built a nest amungst the ivy and petunias. She seems to be interested in us by stretching her neck to look through the sliding glass door to see what we're up to. all the while we're watching her. She seems somewhat comfotable with us using our deck. We now wonder how we should go about watering the flowers while she's there. Stay tuned for more from the Planter Family.
