Pisa, Italy

Flashback 2006

La Piazza dei
Miracoli as seen from our hotel room window at Grand Duomo Hotel

Night view of the Duomo in Pisa, (a one minute exposure).

Cafe next to Grand Duomo Hotel's rooftop garden. The wine was excellent, the gelati even better, (tre gelati).

Two Things Challenge - Corner / Door

This week's Two Things Challenge is Corner / Door.
I searched around town high and low to bring you a local interpretation of this week's challenge. With dreary cold sunless weather, I was uninspired in finding anything locally worthy of this challenge. I searched my archives and found two photos for this challenge.

Corner
Paris, France
Taken in April of 2008 from the top of Arch de Triomphe in the center of Place Charles de Gaulle. I believe this corner to be between Avenue Carnot and Avenue Mac-Mahon. Somebody in Paris will surely know and verify.

Door
San Gimignano, Italy

Taken September of 2006 during our all too brief visit. A lovely city to walk, explore, and get lost.

2 Things Challenge - Local / International

Local - 3rd Avenue Bridge

International - Ponte Vecchio
-
This week's Two Things Challenge is Local / International.
For this challenge, I chose a bridge reflection in a river. My Local image is the 3rd Ave. bridge over the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, Minnesota. My International image is Ponte Vecchio over the Arno River in Florence, Italy.

DFP Challenge - Favorite Places

Rooftop View

My first favorite place is Pisa Italy. I shot this image from our room window at the Grand Duomo Hotel room 409. Quite a tiny room; we had to stack our suitcases on the desk in order to get around the room. There was a nice 3 foot wide balcony to step out onto and observe the city scene. I must add, the cafe next door served a fabulous tiramisu gelato. I do regret not having enough time to climb the tower or visit the cathedral.

A Recycled Photo

My second favorite place is along the Mississippi River downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota near the Stone Arch bridge. Here I crossed under the Stone Arch Bridge on the river's edge to capture the classic downtown scene nearly every Minneapolis photographer has shot. Note the Heron standing in the river in the reflected red light. On one side of the Mississippi River is St. Anthony Main with it's restaurants and shops. On the other side is downtown and the Guthrie Theater. There is a lot to photograph in this area of the river.

The Dragons of San Gimignano

Two photos for RB. These irinworks were on the exterior walls of San Gimignano, Italy. One appears to be a torch holder when torches were used to light the piazzas. I have no idea what the other one is for.
