French Baking

Bonus image - Robin Red Breast shot today.
While we were eating lunch, I noticed a large group of birds out our front window. Birds typically flock around our North Metro feeder stations, but these birds caught my attention. They were Robins - a flock of two dozen or so! Robins here in Minnesota on February 3rd with temperature at 10 degrees F (-12 degrees C) is quite odd. Robins typically return later in the spring after much of our snow has melted. Could this be a sign of an early spring? I sure hope so!

Dough is final proofed for 1.5 hours. Ready to be slashed then baked.

Finished French bread.

Coincidentally I've just finished reading Julia Child's autobiography which has a chapter on making French bread in America.

  5. I like the robin, but the bread wins it for me! You can't beat fresh bread, especially on a cold day :)

  6. What is your address? I'd love some great bread with yummy honey butter. I love to see robins in the winter..makes me think of spring. Did you use a high powered lens? I am getting ready to buy my first 55-200mm lens for my new Nikon D60. I love wildlife and hopefully will get some good shots with the new lens.

    Thanks for making me hungry!!

  8. Actually I've seen several flocks of Robins. Around a creek nearby a few weeks back, and the other day around our house. My wife has seen some too. First year ever we've seen this. Quite odd. Robins normally don't flock, except in the winter time I hear, but not this far north.

  10. Robbins must have smelled the bread and are waiting for some crumbs...

  11. As someone who just put the bread in the oven (no-knead bread that sits for 18 hours) and eagerly awaiting a slice - I'll take the robin. Currently minus 8F. Yeah, I'll take any sign of spring.
