The Point

From the shores of Lake Vermilion

A photographic experiment. Why, you ask? Because we can.
I enjoy learning and trying new techniques whether the result is spot on or not. The fun is in the learning.
This image is a combination of a 7 photo HDR image and Orton imagery. I have shown you many HDR images, and I'm sure you've seen plenty across the blogiverse. I have tried the Orton Effect technique with mixed results. Here I wanted to see what would happen if I combined both techniques in black and white. I'm not crazy about the result, but it was worth a shot and spent some time on it that I simply didn't want to delete it. Besides, photography is a form of art whether or not we simply record what we see, or manipulate the camera settings or processing for a desired affect.

As you know for my work I have to be natural. My photographic assignments tend to be. I'm blown away by this though. Like a broken dream reality and manipulation collide to create an eerie image of a surreal world. Compelling image.

je connaissais pas les travaux d'Orton, alors merci pour cette découverte. Cela rend vraiment très bien.

I knew not the work of Orton, then thank you for this discovery. This makes it really well.

Totally agree with your way of looking at things! I think Orton is interesting, but for me, seldom is it the look I'm going for.

I think it worked out well...I like the b&w and the silky effect...and Lake Vermilion, wow! That could be a picture from our honeymoon 52 years ago!

I may have told you, my uncle presented us his cabin on Vermilion for a week as his wedding present...no running water...but what a beautiful setting.

Now, because of the fact you exhibit extraordinary photographic skills, Lois Anne and I have awarded you the Honest Scrap Award, which, in spite of its funny sounding name, is a serious and very prestigious award! And you deserve it!

Please pick it up at your convenience at The Villages Daily Photo -

Congratulations! Have a wonderful day, DL!

I like it. It looks like the place is being lit by the moon. Beautiful and eerie.

Very interesting experiment, Rob... I like the effect, conveying not only the contrast in landscape texture, but also that of light and dark, reminiscent of the dodge and burn techniques of Ansel Adams. Keep up the experiments; they're obviously increasing your mastery of photography every day...
