A Brave New World

Thought Provoking

I found this scene on the Nicollet Mall interesting and symbolic. A homeless man sitting in front of a window displaying high end fashionable under garments. The price some people pay for unseen fashion is more than enough to cover a few meals for this man. While some people are unable to make ends meet during this recession, others live their lives as if nothing has happened. Bureaucrats blather on about health care when the real need is jobs and an improved economy. Nothing thus far has worked to solve this dilemma. To save face, they shift their attention and focus to other matters.

Hear, hear! Such a sad photo.
You and Bibi have a theme going - she had a similar post for Theme Day - with opposite genders.

PS - What's he gonna do once your winter sets in?

Hi, Dusty! I saw your photo on the portal, and wanted to let you know I did a very similar one for Theme Day. I see Tash already told you! In any case, both are good illustrations of what you've written!

I totally agree with what you said and the shot is so representative of our society, sad but excellent image to make people think !

What a meaningful post! Nicely shot and very well written! Being ignorant about things like this has been the best way to escape from doing something about it. I hope the poor man's situation gets better!

In reality, both are desperately needed as people without healthcare can get completely wiped out with one illness. I agree, however, that if one can afford some high end underwear, certainly a few cents can be tossed this man's way!

I love it; I wonder if he was canny enough to have chosen the spot for effect. Nice one.

Street photography is something I'd like to do more of, but am timid about taking the shots...or at least, taking the time to take them right. Well done on this one! And so very true...

Other matters, like blogging? Then many of us should feel guilty! Fortunately, the right type of blogging and messages (like yours now) and some other actions may be a small part of the solution.

That pic turned out awesome. For such a crummy day you really tagged a great one here. The B&W adds to emotion of it as well.

A powerful shot with a powerful message

Symbolic, sad. Why do we keep on buying?

Quite a riveting image here! It does seem that our world has become one of buy buy buy and it has taken this terrible economy to show some of us that we should save save save...and give give give when we can.

Very well said although I feel affordable lhealth care is extremely important in this country as well. It's easier to look away but now as never before we must face the problems in our country dead in the eye. A very poignant portrait DL!
