Hey Rob, I think the biggest improvement in this shot could be achieved by considering a 'zones' approach (y'know, like Ansel Adams).
You've already got one zone sorted - for the sky - and how gorgeous is that!
But right now, there's not enough of a distinction between those lovely stones and lichen and the surface of the water.
Look at where the rock has the darker trees as a background - you get to see all those lovely tones.
I don't know if during the conversion you can make the water darker or lighter - or conversely, the rocks darker or lighter. But I reckon you need something to separate the two.
All imho, of course!
