2 Things Challenge - Hard / Soft

Soft focus with hard light. I really need an external flash. That pop up flash on my camera is, well, pretty worthless. It shines way too bright on the subject for these close ups. I don't care for this hard light from the pop us flash. Unfortunately, an external flash and the cordless remote transmitter is a bit pricey. Maybe for Christmas.

Speaking of which, I am dismayed to report that on Saturday August 16th at Costco, We witnessed our first Christmas display of Christmas gift wrap, ribbons, and Christmas cards. Those are the the hard sad facts of rabid commercialism.

Q-Tips in a glass jar. Soft pillowy cotton swabs inside a hard glass jar.

  1. I like that q-tip shot! As for the premature Christmas stuff...it upsets me too.

  2. Pop up is a nightmare. I raraely use unless It's under extreme circumstances. The Q.tips photo is perfect for stock photography. Good lateral thinking on the soft/hard concept.

  5. I'm new and I'm late with this/last week's challenge but I thought i should just jump in. I'm impressed with the hard light soft focus idea. As for equipment restrictions, they can be a hindrance or a useful challenge. Right now I'm working with a very old digital camera but taking notes as I travel around the blogosphere. I hope I have a new camera in hand very soon.

  7. I really like both of these, Rob. You always do such a great job with these interpretations. It's always a treat see what you'll find to interpret. Well done!

P.S. Love the bokeh quality of the petunias.
