  5. Dusty - thanks for your note today and congratulations on moving up to a DSLR. The lens you chose is a good compromise for everyday work. It's good to have a lens with a short minimum focal length since most (not all) DSLRs' light sensors are smaller than a frame of 35mm film. This means the image gets squeezed down some. I think the XTi has a magnification factor of 1.5 or 1.6. This means that if you have your lens set at 50mm, you are effectively getting 75 or 80mm of magnification. It makes getting true wide angle shots more difficult.

Sooner or later you are going to want a longer telephoto. I can help you spend your money there, too. Won't even ask for much commission.

I like todays pic. It looks like a very old site and I would not have guessed that it was in the Twin Cities. Actually. Actually, it reminds me of a bit of the remaining Roman wall in London.

  7. The different styles of brick masonry is outstanding. It reminds me of the old flour mill in Hastings.

  9. Somehow this photo looks flat and 3d all at the same time. The swirly water makes it even more interesting.

  10. I think you are right, bl@ck coffee, a bit flat. The rouble when pics from a popint and shoot camera are post processed to the limits. I may have gone a bit too far over the limit here. without the processing, the swirling water was lost in the photo, but that was what cught my eye to take the pic in the first place.
