Grouse Hunting

Grouse hunting with a camera. This ruffed grouse has an excellent vantage point high up in this white pine. sitting by the fire pit, we watched him land on the branch.
Exposure: 0.05 sec (1/20)
Aperture: f/6.3
Focal Length: 300 mm
ISO Speed: 100

I was able to sneak up on him as close as 30 feet away. I (digitally) shot him with my Canon 400D. We watched each other, then he flew off before I could get one last shot.
Exposure: 0.025 sec (1/40)
Aperture: f/6.3
Focal Length: 300 mm
ISO Speed: 100

Lately, with all the mud slinging adds of outward lies and misconceptions spewed by both the Dems and Repubs, I've felt like shooting the TV. And not with my camera, it's ruining the baseball playoffs.
I sure wish I could take more than a year off from work like the windbags have done to tout their propaganda. I'm just not going to drink their Jonestown Kool Aid. Scotch on the rocks for me; make it a triple.
.
Next time around, let's keep the nonsense, er, campaign to four weeks maximum.
I am Dusty Lens and I support this post

  2. the title had me worried for a sec... I often think of putting "drive-by-shooting" since I do take quick pics while driving by -- but the sad reality of LA fwys keeps me from using that.
... sorry about your baseball playoffs being ruined. our TV is on Comedy Central most of the time (in my 13-yr-old's room) & I just see snippets about the campain & usually pretty funny ones. 4 wks would be plenty for me too. stay cool - drink OJ

  4. Beautiful pictures. And I agree. We need to pass a law that puts all the primaries and caucuses on one day. Have the conventions and nominations the next day, then campaign for one month, and be done with it all on Nov. 4.

Geez Rob. Maybe you should run for office. Perhaps you're the change we need for this country!

  6. The only type of grouse shooting I
approve off with a camera. Ecxellent snapping again. Such warm tomes running throughout. I am not surprise you have election fatigue. At least in the UK the husting circuit is a couple of months. Ironically though as my partner is a polictical cartoonist for the BBC he is loving the campaign your side, for the work.

  7. I'll drink to that motion DL. THey are so on my nerves that my teeth have been clenched for weeks, but then so have John McCain's. Wonder if he will look at Obama tonight?

On a lighter more pleasurable note, you grouse is gorgeous. The light is yummy. Drinking around the fire pit and still able to stalk a grouse? YOu're good.

  9. But what would they do with themselves for a full year beforehand? ;0 haha
Will you be watching the debates? They amuse me, but the ads on the commercials and stuff I never watch, too much BS.

The grouse pictures are great; very woodsey and fallish!

  10. Woooooow! That little grouse is just beautiful! I am so impressed! I support your post too! I am so sick and tired of it all.. and I only have to deal with about half of the coverage living abroad. I can't even imagine how abominable it must be!

  11. It's a very nice photo, and it looks nice and sharp. I sometimes have trouble catching in-focus photos of birds because they move so fast! Lovely lighting here and everything.

  14. I support this post too! Though I am enjoying the 5 minutes of coverage a day on our news. I suppose it is constant over the other side of the pond!

  16. These are the nicest grouse pictures I have seen. You must be very proud of them as most photographers are.

I am with you on the politics.

  17. Over from David's in Australia. These are awesome shots. Beautiful colours.

Agreed on the politics - it takes over UK TV too. And then OUR politics takes over. Madness.

  18. Congrats on making David's post of the day..it's a big deal.

Love your pictures, and as for politics and politions...l don't know...l think there is something odd about people who want, need power, and the campaigning is longer than Christmas.
